Young Women

August 5, 2018

Today, I was called as the Young Women President in the Trail Winds Ward.  I'm joining a long line of wonderful women that I've learned and grown from. Jen VanWagnen, Natalee Gibson, Mitzi Brady, Chelsie Bruggeman and Jennifer Harris.  Big shoes to fill, and I'm so excited, nervous, grateful, concerned, happy and overwhelmed.  A huge bag of emotions!

I have to write down my revelatory experience, for my children and grandchildren. I can't sleep because I haven't written this down yet!

I was called in early July as a ward missionary after my calling was dissolved as Visiting Teaching Coordinator due to prophetic revelation in April Conference. As I went to the church to meet with the bishop, I was pondering my future calling and actually thought of YW Pres. You can imagine my surprise when I was called at a ward missionary, without a companion, to minister to the less active in the ward. I humbly accepted the calling and went about my day.  Fast forward two weeks, after trek, and I get an request to meet with the Bishop once again not imagining what for, and again had the YWP thought cross my mind, but pushed it away as it was ridiculous. (I remember my mom telling me a story about how she was gardening and was told somehow that she would become the new stake primary president. She gardened in her tears and was called the next Sunday. I remember her service and her joy in that calling!)

Bishop Forsyth and I chatted for a while and he then asked if I would be willing to serve at the Young Women President.  Through tears of spirtiual confirmation, I said yes. I knew this would be my calling and I was grateful.

I learned in the singles ward from Bishop McIlroy, the following.  He asked me to tell him the first people that popped in my head and stated that they were probably the individuals that needed to be in my presidency, and ta-da, they were.  I remembered that advice and the first people that popped in my mind were Rebecca Wood, Erin Holland and Wenona Lenberg. Rebecca and Wenona were already serving in YW. I went home and prayed and pondered throughout the night and into the next day about names. I looked over the ward directory multiple times and wrote down lists and it all came to me.  Once I had Rebecca as my first counselor, Sandy Davis (recommended by the bishop as someone to think about) as my second counselor, Erin as the Mia Maid Advisor and Jennifer Bigham as my Beehive Advisor with Wenona as my secretary, all other names on my list didn't feel right and pretty much disappeared.  I have someone I would like from the primary presidency, but it's not time and I'm not worried about it. I have just a few laurels and will be able to use Wenona to help me teach them. Anyway, revelation! Personal revelation about who should be in my presidency and who should serve our wards young women. Sandy will be perfect with the beehives. Jennifer is new in the ward and impressed me when she told her story about going to the temple and her husband coming back to church, in relief society. (after I submitted her name, I had to go introduce myself and get to know her the next Sunday!) Erin because she just needs to experience YW as she has always been in primary and Rebecca needs to be in Mia Maids because Kailee needs here.  I need Wenona because of her organization and her charisma as well as her creativity and Wenona needs the YW program to deal with her disappoints from her divorce and children that can't attend church.  These five women are supposed to be serving the Young Women in our ward at this time. I have had a witness and personal revelation.

I'm so grateful for this testimony building experience alone. And I know there are many more to come.  I can't wait. But first, we have to plan an activity for Wednesday, as well as Young women in Excellence the end of September, there's no time to waste.  These girls can't wait for us. We are jumping in, full forece and ready to go. The only difference from my service in YW the last two times is that now, I'm in charge and have to tell people what to do.  No more riding others coats. Wish me luck! And as always, may the Lord bless me as I righteously strive to do my best as the YW President in addition to being a wife, mother and daughter of God.

Here's a picture of all the young women today with the outgoing presidency, Jen Harris, Christine Taccogno and Angela Evans with Rebecca, Nichole and Erica as advisors

Temple trip with my new laurels.

My beehives that are now freshman at BYU! The last time I served in YW.
