A post dedicated to Kedzie

Kedzie is Kedzie! She sometimes reminds me of my mom, sometimes of me, sometimes of Travis.  She is a mix of many different people and personalities, creating one amazing, young woman.  I almost wrote little girl, but she's eleven and moving on to middle school! And we are all excited for the new adventures that await her.  She's ready.

She's worked hard through her elementary school years to learn and grow, make friends and influence people.  The fruit of her labor has come to pass this year in amazing ways.  She was selected to be one of three class student leaders, she choose to participate in Battle of the Books which meant that she had to read ten assigned books in four months, write eight questions about each book and meet weekly at 7am. No only did she read all ten books, but she was selected as one of the team captains.  She and her team went on to beat all the other 5th grade teams, losing only once to the 4th grade team. This loss boosted her team and encouraged them to meet during lunch to review the books and to re-read them so they'd be prepared for district.  District came and I lovingly encouraged Kedzie and her team to go and have fun during the three battles they would have and enjoy the experience.  Never in my wildest dreams would I be home with my boys and receive texts that her team was wiping out all the other teams they were competing against.  Suddenly, they were in 6th place.  I was pacing the floor in the basement remembering that going into 1st grade, Kedzie was in tutoring because she couldn't read! Crying because my mom was so proud of her.  Crying because I was so proud of her.  Travis kept me posted on every step.  Finally, the text came that they were in the battle for 1st and 2nd place out of 24 teams in the entire district.  The team they lost to was Hulstrom which is a gifted and talented charter school.  Second place out of 24 teams for my sweet Kedzie! Go Prairie Hills Elementary!

In addition to BOB, Kedzie was selected by Mrs. Canfield to be in the Honors Choir.  She and 9 other 5th graders from our school, joined 250 other 5th graders for an amazing choir performance.  There was a guest conductor who was outstanding.  They practiced as a school on three occasions and then spent one whole school day working on the show with all the students and performed that evening.  And it was spectacular.  I'm so grateful that her teacher gave her this wonderful opportunity.  My girl loves to sing and she had an amazing experience.

Kedzie had a couple more accomplishments this year.  She participated in the schools choir and performed in many numbers in the concert, in addition to singing the national anthem at a rockies/dodgers game.  She had a beautiful piece of art work displayed at the community college and decided to be on Thornton Frogs swim team, which she had to try out for and successfully made.  When Kedzie puts her mind to it, amazing things happen.  I'm so proud of her and the year she has had.  She's earned in through her hard work and commitment.

I nearly forgot one of the things I love the most about Kedzie.  I asked her if there were kids in her class that were alone and didn't have many friends.  She said there were two and immediately said that she asked them to bowl with her on their 5th grade bowling field trip.  She is kind and she is good.  She is my Kedzie and I love her very much.  Oh and she's also amazing and loving towards children, unless they're related to her!
