Head, shoulder, knees and toes...

Well, this happened! On Saturday March 8th at around 3:30pm.  Kedzie was innocently walking the dog in the middle of the cup-du-sac when sweet, little 5yo neighbor Brody came careening down the hill and smacked right into her.  Breaking both her tibia and tibia and causing the bone to come out of her skin, a compound fracture.

It was awful.  She started screaming.  Christian, Brody's dad was right there and started screaming to call 911.  He reset the bone to stop the bleeding and Suzette and I called 911.  Ethan was crying, I was crying...the funny thing is it happened when all the adults were outside with the kids and no one was doing anything wrong.  Goes to show that things just happen, no matter what!

So, here she is with her head, shoulder, knees and toes scrapes, bruises, brakes and bumps.  She broke two of her brackets on her braces and chipped a tooth among all the rest of the injuries.

The ambulance took us to Good Samaritan's Hospital first where she got some good drugs and a lovely prayer by a pastor there.  They somehow thought it was a car vs. child, not a bike.  What a relief.  If you even tried to move her leg, she would scream. So they were very careful.  They then had to transfer her to Children's because of her age and size.  So, ambulance #2.  In the meantime, the boys were with Suzette and then with Erin.  Suzette was a mess and so was Brody.  I felt so badly for them, but I had to take care of my baby girl.

We got into a room at Children's by around 11pm and they set surgery for 7:30 on Sunday morning. She planned all along to get a black cast.  The reason you ask? Because she was going to be in the show "3 Musketeers" and it would look like a boot!  Always thinking!

So, we were in the hospital until Monday.  She now has crutches and a wheelchair.  She'll be wheelchair bound for at least a month.  No dance recital...two beautiful costumes in the closet! No back exercises for a while either.  But, her attitude was so positive the entire time at the hospital, once she got that cast on.  She is amazing.

Travis was with us until Sunday afternoon when he went home to take care of the boys after Lindsey watched them all Sunday morning.  Thank goodness for good friends.  Here we are face timing.

These are the X-rays post surgery.  I don't get it, but apparently the bones look perfect!  So, hopefully they'll stay that way and everything will look good from here on out.

She has a new bed for the time being and she cruises around the house in her wheelchair.  By Wednesday, she was up and at it and could get herself to the bathroom and anywhere else she needed to go.  Thursday, she did a half day at school and her play that night and Friday she went to school all day and did great! She's pretty amazing.

Ethan and Cooper

Mr. Brody!

This kid is making this cast and break work for her.  Her only wish is that it would have happened to one of the boys and not to her, but that's it! She also complains when I have to wash her hair...seriously!?  But, she is a trooper and is optimistic and positive about this experience.

She got a priesthood blessing while out on the black top waiting for the ambulance which calmed her down and gave her peace. And at the hospital the pastor prayed for her and said that this experience was part of her story and would help create the rest of her story.  It was a powerful prayer.  Never having had a person of another faith pray for our family, it was amazing and powerful and much appreciated.

In addition, we've had texts, emails, letters, donuts, meals, stuffed animals, markers, lunch, diet cokes, cookies, balloons, activities, hugs, kisses, polish on the toes, a date night and experiences that have helped me to understand that I am surrounded by "family." They may not be blood, but I never have to worry about me or my little family not being taken care of because we are surrounded by people who love us.  I can't even begin to tell you how full my heart is.

Even at school, third grades are so eager to help Kedzie and make sure that everything goes well for her at school.  It is quite remarkable.

I'm sure I've missed quite a few good stories, but you caught a picture of our last week.  I think we are back to our new normal today.  Everyone's in school and things are as regular as they can possibly be.  I'm grateful to my in-laws too who had this trip planned this weekend but came out and cleaned my house did my laundry and helped our family out so much this weekend.  What a blessing.

On a lighter note, I did need a vacation, and I got one...with Kedzie at the hospital.  I came home Monday a way better mom to my boys!  Tender mercies are everywhere.  Even in the ugly stuff.  Oh and in case you were wondering, Kedzie forgave Brody instantly for breaking her leg.  And Suzette has been so wonderful through all of this.  She felt awful and has helped us so much.  Our friendship has grown stronger from the experience.  Crazy how things happen! Heavenly Father has a plan!
