Back in the saddle again?! Of course.

So, we've had a bit of a crazy week.  Last Monday, Kedzie started her first ever, week long horse camp with her good friends Mya and Peyton.  They rode horses, washed horses, fed horses, cleaned up horse poop and it was just the first day.  Day two, they did a bit more riding and more cleaning up. Oh it was great.  she was in heaven.  As I went to pick her up at three, she said that she wanted to go see the small pony's in their pens.  I said okay, and off she went.  A few minutes later, she comes around the corner holding her arm and crying that she broke her arm.  WHAT?!  At first, I thought she was being a little dramatic and then I saw her arm like a rope, swinging in the wind.  It was indeed, broken.

Apparently, she had asked a little boy who was around to hold onto the pony while she got on.  Now, just so you know, this is a wagon pulling pony, not a riding pony.  What was she thinking?  I'm pretty sure she was thinking that she was conquering a quarter horse, why couldn't she conquer a small, little pony.  Apparently, the pony started running around it's pen and then bucked her right off.

We headed directly to Children's Hospital where they concurred that her arm was indeed broken!  Travis showed up and pawned our boys on to Amy Busch (thank you!) and then drove our car to the big Children's in Aurora while Kedzie and I were transferred by ambulance! Yes, she had a broken humerus bone in her right arm and she was going to need surgery as quickly as possible.  The x-rays say it all.

She was such a trooper.  Once she heard the doctors say it was broken, she started to cry because she wouldn't be able to ride her horse Dixie again.  Once we got her past that, she just pouted when the pain became too extreme and they'd give her more morphine.  My sweet baby girl.

So, long story short, she broke her arm at 3:15p. Had surgery at 8:30p and was in her room at Children's for the night by 11p.  Amy kept my boys over night and Travis and I had a very expensive :) restless night in the hospital.

We are so grateful that it was only the arm, as she was not wearing a helmet at the time.  We are so grateful for Children's in Broomfield.  We are so grateful that the pony didn't step on her.  We are so grateful for kind and "human" doctors and nurses who took care of all of us.  We are so grateful that after five days, she no longer needs pain medication.  We are so grateful the boys behaved while we were away.  We are so grateful that it was during the summer, as it is her right arm.  We are simply grateful for the broken arm.  Sounds crazy, but it's true.  We were truly blessed, as the situation could have been far worse.

On Friday, we headed back to horse camp to see our friends on the last day and her teacher had her get back on her horse and she was glowing.  She was so happy to be back on Dixie.  I don't think it will be long before she's back at her regular horse riding adventures...without riding any more pony's.  Lesson learned!

I believe I've written enough.  The pictures will tell the full story in more vivid detail.
Enjoy! Oh and we do head back to the doctor to check on things this week and I believe they said that the pins will come out in three weeks and they'll decide at that point to re-cast or not.  But, we'll just enjoy the journey right?  And wait and see what happens.  Again, grateful that it is just a break and that she is alive and well.

Spook, Mya, Kedzie and Scarlett moments before the "incident."

Kedzie at Children's clinic drugged with morphine and Beauty and the Beast.

Kedzie ready for her ambulance ride.

Kedzie and her beloved animal blanket and "da-da."

Just before puking from all the morphine.

Post surgery with a little shot of O2.

It's all pink and sparkly!

Homeword bound.

Home at last.

The break.  Ewe...

The pins.  Four of them!

The day after.  All she can wear are tank tops right now because the cast is sooo large.

Back in the saddle again with Ethan on Dixie

THE pony.  Ironically named Goliath.

Yes, it is a relief it was just her arm. What a brave little girl.

I got bucked off my Aunt's horse when I was little, and still to this day am a little afraid of them.

All those pins look horrible, and surgery, wow, what a day.
Hope she heals quickly and can enjoy the rest of the summer.

Horses are scary, lots of ways to get hurt! I'm so glad it was just her arm and she isn't afraid to get right back on! What a brave girl!

Oh baby girl! I think the worst part is when the kids are on the pain meds - it completely takes away all their spunk and life. I'm so glad it was just a broken arm - and it will be a fun story for her to share over the years ;).
